Thai massage feels different from anything else on a spa menu. Instead of long strokes, you get firm pressure along the body's energy lines and gentle stretches that open the hips, back and shoulders.
Traditional or with oil
Traditional Thai massage is done clothed, on a mat, with no oil. The therapist combines rhythmic pressure with stretches that free movement, and many guests say they leave standing taller.
If you prefer, the same massage can be done with oil, which makes the strokes smoother. Tell us when you book and we will prepare the room for the version you choose.
Thai yoga
Thai yoga is passive yoga: the therapist moves you through stretches and gentle pressure while you simply breathe. You leave with the openness of a yoga class and none of the effort. It suits tight hips and hamstrings, long hours sitting, and anyone who has not stretched in a while.
What to wear and how it feels
Wear comfortable clothes you can stretch in. The pressure is firm but always adapted to you, so tell your therapist if you want more or less. Expect to feel loose and light afterwards, and drink some water during the rest of the day.
Who it is for
Thai massage is a favourite after long flights, days of walking Lisbon's hills, or weeks at a desk. If you want deep muscle work without stretching, deep tissue and sports massage may suit you better.
